Li Shutongは中国出身。2019年にスクール・オブ・ビジュアル・アーツ（SVA）を卒業し、2023年に東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科修士課程を修了。

3x3 Art Spaceでは、李書同による個展「夜の帳とミスリル」を開催いたします。

本展は、J.R.R.トールキンの神話世界に登場する「秘銀（ミスリル）」をモチーフに、闇の中に潜む光と、人の内面に秘められた感情や記憶について考察するものです。

ミスリルは、大地の深奥に眠る希少な金属として語られます。それは富や欲望の象徴であると同時に、未知なる世界への入口でもあります。作家はこのイメージを手がかりに、夜を単なる光の不在ではなく、光が生まれ現れるための場として捉えます。

展示される絵画作品には、神話的なモチーフや幻想的な風景、人物や動物たちが登場し、現実と夢のあわいに広がる世界が描き出されます。恐れ、憧れ、孤独、希望といった感情は、地層の奥深くに眠るミスリルのように静かに潜み、ふとした瞬間にかけがえのない輝きを放ちます。

本展を通じて、光と闇、顕れるものと隠されたものの境界に身を置きながら、私たちの内側にある言葉にならない感覚に耳を澄ませていただければ幸いです。

Night Veil and Mithril

Li Shutong was born in China. He graduated from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York in 2019 and received his MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2023.

This exhibition is presented as a special nighttime project. The works are displayed within a lighting environment distinct from daytime conditions, making the experience of night itself an integral part of the exhibition. Visitors are invited to encounter the works through subtle shifts of darkness and light, engaging with their quiet narratives in an atmosphere of contemplation.

3x3 Art Space is pleased to present Night Veil and Mithril, a solo exhibition by Li Shutong. Drawing inspiration from Tolkien’s mythology, the exhibition takes mithril as a metaphor for the light hidden within darkness and for emotions and memories that remain buried beneath the surface of consciousness.

In Tolkien’s legendarium, mithril is a rare and precious metal found deep beneath the earth. It embodies both desire and mystery, serving as a bridge between the visible world and the unknown. Through this imagery, the artist approaches night not as an absence of light, but as a space in which light becomes possible.

The photographs presented in the exhibition weave together mythology, fantasy, and personal experience. Figures, animals, and symbolic landscapes inhabit a realm suspended between reality and dream. Beneath the veil of night, emotions such as fear, longing, solitude, and hope emerge like veins of mithril hidden deep within the earth, revealing their quiet radiance at the moment they are encountered.

Night Veil and Mithril invites viewers into a world where darkness and illumination coexist, offering a contemplative space to rediscover feelings that often remain unnamed.

《夜纱下的秘银》

李书同，出生于中国。2019年毕业于纽约视觉艺术学院（SVA），2023年毕业于东京艺术大学大学院美术研究科，获硕士学位。

3x3 Art Space 将举办李书同个展《夜纱下的秘银》。

本次展览以托尔金神话中的“秘银（Mithril）”为线索，探讨隐藏于黑暗之中的光，以及那些潜藏于内心深处、难以言说的情感与记忆。

在托尔金的传说中，秘银是一种极其珍贵的金属，诞生于大地最深处的幽暗之中。它既是财富与欲望的象征，也是通往未知深渊的入口。艺术家借用这一意象，将夜晚视作一种孕育可能性的空间——黑暗并非光的缺席，而是让光得以显现的条件。

展出的绘画作品以神话、幻想与个人经验交织而成。人物、动物与象征性的景观共同构成一个介于现实与梦境之间的世界。在深沉的夜色之下，那些关于恐惧、渴望、孤独与希望的情绪如同埋藏于地层深处的秘银，在被凝视的瞬间悄然发出微光。
